Spotmau PowerSuite offers a wide range of features to help your computer perform at its best. Spotmau provides a superb selection of repair and recovery features along with an assortment of features to optimization your device. Spotmau PowerSuite would be a great PC system utilities application if it weren’t for its confusing interface. When you open the application, you’re greeted with a screen that gives you nine different options. It’s hard to tell what each of these options does based on the limited amount of information that’s provided on this screen. Most users might click on one option only to find that they have to wade through the other eight options to get what they want. This application’s interface detracts from the usefulness of its quality features, like its service and internet optimizers.
The startup management feature in Spotmau PowerSuite PC system utilities focuses on disabling unnecessary startup items to make your operating system load faster. We were more impressed with the Startup Manager than the Bootup Optimizer because the Bootup Optimizer has only two limited features: one that that speed up startup time and another that will increase the speed with which your system detects your hard disks. This feature as a whole would’ve been more impressive if it had an option to automatically disable unnecessary startup items without you having to worry about manually disabling something that’s crucial to your system.
Within the PC system utilities Smart Uninstall deletes applications using their respective uninstallers and then scans the registry and your hard drive to find any files that were left over after the uninstall. We liked this feature because it does go back and removes remaining registry keys and files. Files left over from uninstalled applications are one of the main causes of hard drive clutter.
PC Health Check evaluates the health of your computer with a long list of tests. With this feature, you can optimize your computer without having to use each feature individually. It combines the best features Spotmau PowerSuite has to offer into an effective, all-in-one solution.
Disk Cleaner scans your hard drive for junk files using its list of six different file types. Based on this feature’s small list of supported file types, we didn’t expect it to come back with the extensive results that it did. We cleared over 100 MB of hard drive space with this feature on a computer that didn’t have many files on it. The number should undoubtedly go up for computers that have more data on them.
Internet Privacy Cleaner, Computer Privacy Cleaner and IE Plug-ins Cleaner are three features that could easily be combined since their functionality is so similar. Internet Privacy Cleaner and Computer Privacy Cleaner remove traces of your activity on the internet and in other applications, respectively. IE Plug-ins Cleaner gets rid of plug-ins that might have been installed without your permission.
Shortcut Cleaner is a feature that could be good, but is tragically flawed. It removes any shortcuts that are no longer functional, even if their application was just moved to a different folder. We used this PC system utilities application itself to test out this feature. We moved the application, so its shortcut predictably appeared in the scan results and was promptly deleted. An option for finding a new target for invalid shortcuts would make this feature a lot better.
This PC system utilities application has outstanding data backup and recovery features as well. It can back up and restore selected files or folders, partitions, and image files. It also has options for recovering accidentally deleted files or files from formatted partitions.
Spotmau PowerSuite’s internet optimizer adjusts eight settings in an effort to get the most out of your internet connection. While we noticed a solid difference in our connection speed before and after it was optimized. However, other features like this one in similar applications deal with far more settings and make more of a difference on our connection.
This application’s service management feature helps you optimize Windows services to increase the performance of your system. We recommend that you choose the Recommended Services option because the Maximum Performance option disables an excessive amount of features and limits the functionality of important areas of your system, like remote desktop connection.
Spotmau PowerSuite’s interface is disorganized and confusing. All of its PC system utilities features are grouped into sections called kits. Some kits have a lot of useful features while others have only a few. This application would be more effective if all of its features were grouped into a single interface. That way you would be able to find what you need without having to sort through several confusing menus. Once we were actually able to find the features we needed, they were pretty easy to use.
Spotmau offers a contact form and a frequently asked questions (FAQs) section for the PC system utilities that doesn’t offer much information; luckily, they don’t take long to get back to you with the contact form. When we sent them a message, we received a response in less than three hours. While this response time may not be typical, it’s encouraging for future correspondence.
Spotmau PowerSuite is an odd PC system utilities application because of how it’s structured. Instead of having a series of diagnostic tools incorporated into one easy-to-navigate interface, it’s a mismatched, disorganized hodge-podge of miscellaneous tools that are unnecessarily spread out. If the application were consolidated into a more understandable interface, it would be a much easier pill to swallow. As it is, it’s a PC system utilities application that has some quality features that are canceled out by its awkward interface.
